iPhone iOS 5 Beta 7 Expired and need a backup?

Did your iPhone lock tonight with the expiration of iOS 5 Beta 7? Yup, so did mine! Need to back it up? I have a solution for you that I just found: Diskaid.

This solution came from this post, and is a fantastically simple solution. My wife and I are grabbing our contacts, photos, messages, and more using Diskaid now.

For those of you who woke up to find out that IOS beta 5 has expired, DO NOT PANIC.. there is a very easy way to recover your data.

1. Boot up the iPhone
2. Download DiskAid (http://www.digidna.net/products/diskaid) and install it.
3. Connect the iPhone to the PC.
4. Simply copy the data off your iPhone (yeah its that easy) :-D

Patrick asked: “then what??”

In response:

Once you have all of your iPhone data backed up. Then you can follow the instructions on putting iOS 5 Live on your phone, found here. Install the release, and update your phone from your latest iTunes backup.

Once you’ve got your iPhone back online, then you can DiskAid again to place the data, since your last iTunes backup back on the phone. e.g. Any new pictures, contacts, messages, etc.

I hope that answers your question, patrick.

I hope this helps someone out there.

What do you mean, exactly? Update your phone and put the data back on it. :)

I tried it but it tells me “DiskAid is not able to get data from device. Make sure you are not syncing with iTunes at the same time or try to restart both your device and computer…”. iTunes is not running and I tried with restarting the computer and the device but with no success. The error occur on both OS X Lion and Windows 7. Please help.

For those still having problems, try some of the solutions in the developer forums:

Too bad this doesn’t work. I get the same problem as “myexec” and I am using Windows 7 64-bit.

I also tried following the 2 links, the jailbreak option semi-works the only problem is it doesn’t seem to actually make a backup file at all.

The other link needs a developer login so kind of pointless to post that link, just go in and get the info and post that otherwise how do you expect people to view it “Crimm”?

I’m sorry to hear you are still having trouble. Unfortunately, since those links require developer access then I can’t share the information with you due to the NDA. Technically, to have the beta you’d have to have developer access anyway.

You may be out of luck if these solutions don’t work for you. All you can hope for is your iCloud backup has been running.

    Good luck.
