Today, I received this error:
“Login Failure: the target account name is incorrect”
when attempting to access a share across two domain connected PC’s. I’m not sure of the cause, but the solution was simple, but a pain in the arse.
1) Take the PC you are attempting to connect to and drop it from the domain
2) Add the PC back to the domain
If you are still having trouble try accessing the share without a domain on the share PC. Just when you connect, map it as a network drive, and click the “different user name” (Screenshot below) and use a local user with permissions. Good luck!
